Lady Red Devils defeat Winston County

J.R. Tidwell/FCT Jessica Pickle leads the Vina girls out of the locker room before a game played earlier this season.

The Vina Lady Red Devils varsity basketball team defeated the Winston County Lady Yellow Jackets 41-33 Thursday night at Vina.

The Lady Red Devils jumped out to a 13-3 lead by the end of the first, but Winston County made a run to narrow the gap to 19-13 at the half.

“The girls really put together a real good defensive effort,” Vina head coach Paul Humphres said. “We played really hard and I’m proud we came away with a win.”

Vina came out of intermission firing on all cylinders. The Lady Red Devils outscored the Lady Yellow Jackets 13-5 in the third quarter, but Winston County mounted a comeback late.

The Lady Yellow Jackets went on a 15-9 run in the fourth quarter, but Vina’s lead was too much to overcome.

Jessica Pickle led the Lady Red Devils in scoring with 13 points, while Andrea Parrish added 8.
