THARPTOWN | The Tharptown boys varsity team topped Vina 64-29 on Thursday night.

“Our defense wasn’t very good tonight,” Vina head coach Dustin Silas said. “They have a good team and they showed it tonight.”

Vina managed to keep the game close through the first quarter. The Wildcats had a 9-6 lead after the first eight minutes. Tharptown extended its lead to 29-19 by the half, and the Wildcats allowed the Red Devils only 10 points after the intermission.

“We played better in the second half,” Tharptown head coach Jonathan Odom said. Kent [Allen] and Riley [Nolen] played well for us tonight.”

The Wildcats’ defense gave up only four points in the third quarter, allowing Tharptown to take a 46-23 lead with one quarter left to play.

Allen started off the fourth quarter on the right foot for the Wildcats by hitting two-straight three-pointers.

Tharptown’s defense kept the Red Devils in check, allowing the Wildcats to pick up the big win.

“We have some other guys stepping up for us,” Odom said. “We got everybody some playing time tonight.”
