Chamber hosting business disaster readiness workshop

Business owners may not know how many steps there are when it comes to preparing your business for a disaster, but they’ll be able to get all the information they need at an upcoming business disaster readiness workshop designed for Franklin County businesses.

The workshop, sponsored by Franklin County Chamber of Commerce and the Franklin County Cooperative Extension System, will focus on the many aspects a business should be prepared for in the event of a natural disaster, such as the April 27 tornadoes, or other disasters like fires and flooding.

“Many business owners think they have all their bases covered, but when something like the tornadoes or another disaster happens, they figure out all too late that they could have been better prepared,” Chamber Director Nina McNatt said.

“We will be giving out lots of materials focused on helping businesses know what they need to do to prepare for the unexpected. We’ll also have Wade Hagedorn, plant manager for the Wrangler plant in Hackleburg, who will be providing valuable information about what they learned after the tornado destroyed the plant.

“Mr. Hagedorn has been through the worst situation and knows first hand how devastating it can be to go through something like that. He will be an excellent source for all Franklin County’s business owners about what to do and what not to do.”

McNatt said the workshop would be beneficial to both small business owners and large corporations.

“You can never be too prepared, no matter how small or large a business may be,” she said.

“Every business is different, which makes this workshop so valuable. We’ll discuss many scenarios that can be tailored to fit a wide range of business practices.”

The workshop will be held Thursday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. at the A.W. Todd Centre in downtown Russellville. The workshop will be free of charge and will also include a meal.

For any Franklin County business that is interested in participating in this free workshop, please call the Chamber office at 256-332-1760 to register or to receive further information.
