PHIL CAMPBELL — Phil Campbell scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to cut its deficit to 4-3, but Red Bay responded in the fifth inning with a six-run outburst to take control of the game for good.

Mariah Horton began the onslaught with a single and a stolen base before scoring on a double by Emily Cox. Hannah Sharp then reached second on an error before Audrey Goss’s single scored Cox and Sharp.

Kellie Ballard, Lexy Lindsey and Lauren Pacetti all scored in the inning as Red Bay sent 10 batters to the plate.

It was a devastating half inning for Phil Campbell. The Lady Bobcats struggled at the plate as Red Bay’s Cox retired the first nine batters she faced while the Lady Tigers built a 4-0 advantage.

Phil Campbell’s Whitley Yocom helped the Lady Bobcats snap out of the offensive slump when she reached base on an error in the fourth inning to break up Cox’s perfect game and advanced to second on a pass ball. Sarah Hilliard then drove Yocom home with a single followed by a single by Lindsey Jackson and a sacrifice by Taylor Scott to score Hilliard.

Jackson later scored on a hit by Sarah Hester to cut the deficit to 4-3.

After Red Bay regained control of the game in the fifth inning Phil Campbell’s offense could not get going again. The Lady Bobcats had three more base runners during the game, but none advanced past second base.

Pacetti led the Lady Tigers with a pair of singles, a double and three runs while Horton had a pair of singles, a pair of RBIs and scored two runs. Whitney Sharp had two singles, drew two walks and drove in two runs while Hannah Sharp singled and scored three runs.

Cox singled, doubled, scored a run and had one RBI while Ballard had two singles, scored a run and had one RBI. Goss singled and had three RBIs while Lindsey rounded out the Red Bay offense with a single, a run scored and one RBI.

Cox pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and three runs while striking out four Phil Campbell batters.

Hester led Phil Campbell with a single, and an RBI while Hilliard had a pair of singles. Jackson had a single and an RBI while Yocom had a single and Scott had an RBI.

Jackson took the loss for the Lady Bobcats, pitching seven innings and allowing 14 hits and 12 runs while striking out seven Red Bay batters.
