Tigers clash when Auburn hosts Clemson

Expectations have been high at Auburn leading into the second season under coach Gene Chizik and with a 2-0 record the buzz is still going strong.

The Tigers breezed past Arkansas State to open the season and survived a rally from Mississippi State last week, but will get a strong test tonight when Clemson comes to town.

The Auburn offense has looked good behind a strong rushing attack led by quarterback Cameron Newton, who is second in the conference and 16th nationally with 120.5 rushing yards per game. He has also had some impressive passing performances and is second in the Southeastern Conference and tied for 21st in the nation with 281.5 yards of total offense per game and is sixth nationally in passing efficiency.

Helping the Tigers ground game are Onterio McCalebb, who is averaging 72 yards per game, and Michael Dyer, who has averaged 71.5 yards per game.

The Clemson defense is led by Andre Branch, who has three sacks during the first two games. The Clemson defense has recorded eight sacks and is eighth in the nation in tackles for a loss, averaging 9.5 per game.

Clemson’s offense is led by quarterback Kyle Parker, who has completed 15-of-26 passes for 283 yards and four touchdowns with only one interception.

Trying to stop Parker will be an Auburn defense that is led by Nick Fairly and Antoine Carter. Both players lead the Tigers with three sacks, and four tackles for a loss. Fairley recorded an interception and a fumble recovery against Mississippi State last week.

This will be the 47th meeting between the two programs, with Auburn holding a 33-11-2 advantage. Auburn has won the past 13 meetings.
