Gift from Archives teaches students about history
History is a vital part of any community. Before leaders can decide which direction they want to head, they must know where they have been.
The Franklin County Archives is making sure the next generation of civic leaders knows about the history of Franklin County thanks to a gift to all the high schools in the county.
The Archives donated a DVD collection, containing 20 disks, of interviews with area seniors discussing their lives and the county’s past.
This gives students the change to hear some familiar stories through a new voice and to learn new stories from the people who lived them.
The collection will offer students a great way to learn about what Franklin County was like 60, 70 or even 80 years ago. Hopefully it will build a sense of pride in the community and give them ideas for the future of the county.
