Red Devils host Flame

VINA — Vina fought hard and was in position to beat Class 2A Cherokee last week, but a pass play as time expired fell incomplete and the Red Devils were on the wrong end of a 12-7 game.

They will have to shake off that tough loss this week as they prepare to open the region schedule at home against Shoals Christian. The Flame is also coming off a loss from last week — a 57-30 loss at the hands of Lynn.

The team that wins this game will have a crucial victory in the fight for a playoff spot in Class 1A, Region 8. With R.A. Hubbard, Addison and Hackleburg expected to make the playoffs, wins between the other teams in the region are important in the race for the final playoff berth.

Vina is 2-6 against the Flame all time.
