Pens, paper and tax breaks available this weekend

There is an old saying that nothing is certain except for death and taxes.

While that is usually true, Alabama residents will get a break from the taxes this weekend during the back-to-school tax holiday.

School supplies along with certain clothing and electronics can be purchased from midnight Friday through midnight Sunday will be exempt from state taxes. Some local communities throughout the state, including Red Bay and Russellville, will also waive local taxes on these items.

With school scheduled to begin next week, it is a great time to purchase those much-needed supplies and save a little money in the process.
