Red Devils’ Greg Hamilton named 2010 Coach of the Year

After starting the baseball program at Vina in the mid 1990s, Greg Hamilton has experienced quite a bit of success with the relatively young program.

He had guided the Red Devils to the playoffs a handful of times and has coached three different players that have received First Team All-State honors.

But one thing eluded him — a playoff victory.

That changed in 2010 when the Red Devils cruised through Class 1A, Area 15 competition to earn the area title and home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The Red Devils won the first game 7-0 before dropping the next two games to Decatur Heritage.

Although Vina failed to advance, Hamilton and his players got to experience a playoff win for the first time in school history.
