PC’s Hamby looking for the “regular” life

Dillan Hamby, 17, views himself as an active guy, playing all sports that were offered to him during his tenure at Phil Campbell High School.

But Hamby doesn’t see himself making a career out of athletics after caps with swinging tassels are tossed in the air.

Hamby’s plans, after high school, are to continue his education, striking off the basic college curriculum in his hometown at Northwest-Shoals Community College then adventuring out a bit to the University of Alabama-Huntsville majoring in some type of mechanical engineering.

“As a kid growing up I have always tore stuff a part just to put it back together again,” he said. “So I’ve been thinking of going into something that has a mechanical feel to it. I’d really want my career job to be one that I enjoy doing rather than a job I dread day after day.”

Hamby’s hobbies consist of being outdoors a lot, hardly ever sitting on the couch and watching television. Fishing and hunting are among the things he enjoys doing the most other than participating in sporting events.

After college, Hamby could possibly see himself living close to home, depending on if there is a place that offers what he wants to do for a career.

“I’d like to live here close to my family, but I figure the type of job I will be hunting for is only in places like Florence,” he said. “If I could I would like to buy this piece of land my uncle owns halfway between Spruce Pine and Hackleburg and build a house, living there as I travel back and forth to my job.”

Hamby said true happiness for him would include the traditional dream, aside from the white picket fence.

“I’d like to have a house, kids, wife, you know just the regular life everyone dreams about,” he said. “I know that I definitely want to live in the country, not close to a city or town.”

Hamby said he will miss all the people he grew up with through his grade school years and if he could go back, he wouldn’t change a thing about Phil Campbell High School because he just simply “loves it.”

Hamby describes his ideal day as going to Tuscaloosa with his girlfriend, watch Alabama football and spend all day tailgating.

“I’d also like to go hunting up in the mountains and travel some,” he said. “I’ve never been to Germany, France, Hawaii or the Bahamas. Those are some places I would really like to visit in the future.”

Graduation for Phil Campbell High seniors is set for May 28th and Hamby said that will be when his journey will truly begin.
