Spruce Pine reunion set for weekend

SPRUCE PINE – The Spruce Pine Historical Society is hosting the first-ever Spruce Pine High School Reunion Saturday, April 17 from 2 to 8 p.m.

Society Member Linda South said refreshments will be provided by the Historical Society at no charge.

“We are always having fundraisers here so we didn’t want anyone to think there was a charge for the refreshments,” South said.

The event will be held at the newly remodeled Spruce Pine Community Center, located next to the Post Office in Spruce Pine.

South said they are expecting around 100 guests for the event.

“We are planning for about 100, but we aren’t really very sure because this is the first time we’ve had a reunion,” South said.

Former teachers Mary Britton and Barbara Cain will attend the event as well.

“We are very excited to have two teachers from the school to attend our reunion,” South said. “We want to invite everyone to come out to our reunion.”

South asks that anyone with pictures from the old school days to bring them to the reunion so copies can be made of them for the historical society.

“We can make copies of these photos on site,” South said. “So everyone will be able to take their photos home with them.”
