VINA – The Franklin County Board of Education voted 4-1 Thursday not to renew the girls basketball coaching contract of Phil Campbell’s Amy Moss.
Moss, who is tenured, did not issue a comment on the board’s decision by press time.
“This has been a hard decision,” said. Superintendent Gary Williams. “It wasn’t made in haste.”
Vice-Chairman T.J. Bragwell cast the lone vote in opposition of adopting the motion to not to renew the contract.
In other business, the board approved the hire of Bill Smith as the head football coach at Tharptown.
Smith spent the last 10 years at Vina and guided the Red Devils to the playoffs last season.
He has now been the head coach at each of the five county schools that have football programs.
Smith replaces Clint Nunley, who spent one year as the Wildcats’ head coach.
This fall will be the third consecutive season Tharptown has had a new head coach.
