Vina students score high

VINA – While local schools throughout the state are facing tight budgets this year, with many cuts coming in technology resources, one local school is working to maintain its high test scores.
Vina Principal James Pharr said his students scored in the high range on their state assessment tests.
"We are very proud of our students, and we want to congratulate them on their success," Pharr said.
Pharr said grades three through eight worked hard and the hard work paid off when scores were announced.
"The fifth grade did particularly well on the assessment and on their writing assessment," Pharr said.
Pharr said there is room for improvement this year, and he has already addressed those areas with the teachers.
"We didn't do this alone," Pharr said. "Teachers, parents, and community members work hard to give our students the very best start possible. It's very important that we have a good administration behind us, and we do."
Pharr said he'd like to thank Superintendent Gary Williams and the board of the education including the Vina representative, Randy Hester.
As for the current money situation, Pharr said he isn't going to let a lack of funding to get in the way of academic success.
"We [the school systems] are having a very tough time right now, but we are just going to keep doing what we have been doing. We have to because it's our job to see that these students get the very best start possible."
