UNA heads to Southern Arkansas

By Staff
The University of North Alabama opens its season today at Southern Arkansas in a game featuring Gulf South Conference foes, but the results will not count toward conference standings.
It is the fourth consecutive year the Lions have had to play a GSC opponent in a non-conference game due to scheduling issues.
The Lions carry a six-game win streak in season opening games and an 18-game win streak against teams from Arkansas.
UNA is 8-4 all time against the Muleriders and has won every game against SAU since 2003. The Lions are 3-2 in games played at SAU.
UNA is coming off a 12-2 season in which it reached the Division II playoff semifinals. The Muleriders were 2-8 last year.
Both teams feature new head coaches.
The Lions are led by Terry Bowden, who has a 111-53-2 record as a head coach. This will be his first game since October 17, 1998.
The Muleriders' new coach is Bill Keopple. He has 25 years of coaching experience in high school and college, but this is his first season as a collegiate head coach.
