Adventures in hairstyles

By Staff
Melissa Cason
It's no secret that I have short hair, and that my blondish-brown locks come from a bottle instead of nature. But, some of the hairstyles I have had since 1995, may shock you.
I cut my hair off the summer before my senior year in high school, and since then, I have been a red head and a few years ago, I decided to go blonde to brighten me up.
Over the years, I have had every haircut in the book from medium length to ultra-short do like Alissa Milano from Charmed.
I have this thing about my hair: If it's a good hair day, I'm doing great. If my hair fails to cooperate that day, my mood isn't always the best.
My brother used to make fun of me because I'd get up an hour and half early just so I could wash, dry and fix my hair. And, that was when I had the longer locks to boot.
I could do without makeup, but if my hair was a mess, I didn't want anyone to see me. I still don't. Christmas morning, I try to get up before the boys do so I can fix my hair. I know that sound crazy but I do it.
Since I am so picky about my hair, it stands to reason I'd have to love the person that cuts my hair. I have a good relationship with my hair lady.
I had a very fulfilling relationship with a wonderful hair lady that lasted 10 years. But she suddenly passed away, and I had to search for a new hair lady. I made few calls, and got a new hair lady.
I like my new lady, but I was very nervous about the first haircut. I think she was too. After all it was an audition for her.
I am very picky about the people who touch my hair, and you have to go to someone a few times to know if you really like what they do.
I like my new hair lady, and I plan to stay with her for a while. Even though I have a new hair lady, she will never take the place of Ginny, the old hair lady.
When you go see the same person over and over again, you bond. At least, I bond.
Over the years, Ginny saw me in all times-good and bad. I will forever miss her.
