Ann M. Beason, 81, of Attalla, Ala. passed away Friday, April 10, 2009.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Etowah County. Ann was a member in the Fidelis Sunday School class, a member of the Attalla Golden Age Club and a volunteer at The Etowah Mission Center. She was an active member of Stowers Hill Baptist church. She graduated form Gaston High School in 1946 and she attended Gadsden Business College. She worked at Allis Chalmers for 35 years. Ann was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a quiet person, strong in faith and gentle in spirit. She enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family and numerous friends. She especially delighted in her grandchildren, enjoying nothing more than watching Rebekah perform at the Auburn games as an Auburn University Majorette and Caleb team roping at rodeos.
Funeral services were held April 13, 2009 at Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Bradfield officiating. Burial was in Moragne Cemetery. She was survived by her husband, Kenneth Beason, of Attalla; daughter, Karen Beason, of Attlala; son, Eddie Beason and wife, Debbie, of Russellville; grandchildren, Caleb Beason and Rebekah Beason; sisters, Margaret McCaghren, of Mobile, Jeanette Anderson and husband Floyd, of Ashville, Mary Malone, of Attalla; brother, Gerald McCarver and wife, Judy, of Calhoun, Ga.; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special pet, Molly.
Pallbearers were Caleb Beason, Robert Malone, Stacey McCarver, Danny Reynolds, Lynn Padgett, Ronald Tracy and David Hooks. Honorary pallbearers were members of Stowers Hill Baptist Church.
Jennifer Loraine Mitchell

Jennifer Loraine Mitchell, 35, of Russellville passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009 at her residence.
Funeral services were held April 13, 2009 at Spry Memorial Chapel with Bro. Roger Jones officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Memory Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hilda Ashley and father, Ralph Cothrum.
She is survived by her husband, Donnie Mitchell; son, Andrew McAlister; sister, Joyce Eastridge and husband, Tommy, of Russellville; brothers, Jerry Cothrum and wife, Sandy, of Phil Campbell and Jamey Cothrum and wife, Kim, of Burnout; sister-in-law, Lisa Whittington and husband, Shane, of Humble, Texas; father-in-law, Harold Mitchell, of Russellville; nephews, Austin Whittington, Jacob Whittington, of Humble, Texas; nieces, Samantha Whittington, of Humble, Texas and Kelsey Cothrum of Phil Campbell.
Pallbearers will be Shane Whittington, Austin Whittington, Ronnie Shickles, Robbie Cornutt, Tommy Eastridge and Deandra Whitehead.
She was a very loving wife, mother and sister. She had a heart of gold and will be very dearly missed.
Ethel Humphres

Ethel Peppers Humphres, 94, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at the Care Center of Red Bay. She was born October 1, 1914 in St. Joseph, Tenn. to James Arthur and Matter Bell Rollins Peppers. She was retired form Lance Garment and was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held April 9, 2009 at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Hindman officiating. Burial was in Halltown Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay assisted the family.
She is survived by her daughter, Martha Jean Majors and husband, Curtis, of Vina; one son, Terry Humphres, of Cordova, Tenn.; two brothers, Marshall Peppers, of Memphis, Tenn. and Clyde Peppers, of Vilonia, Ark.; one sister, Elsie Pankey, of Vilonia, Ark.; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rube Humphres; son, Thomas Humphres; daughter, Ruby Horton; daughter-in-law, Patsy Humphres; and three brothers, Henry Peppers, Claude Peppers and Ethridge Peppers.
W. Raymond Orrick

W. Raymond Orrick, 96, of Vina, passed away Friday, April, 10, 2009 at Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was a life long resident of Vina. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII and was a member of Vina First Baptist Church. He was a retired auto and tractor mechanic, who was employed by Ford Tractor Co. for a number of years. He was also a business owner who operated a Gulf gas station in Vina for several years.
Funeral services were held April 13, 2009 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dan Hindman and Bro. Kevin Johnson officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Carr, of Florence; sister, Gladys Epperson, of Russellville; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and a special friend, Kathleen Thompson, of Florence.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Long Orrick; three brothers, Jim Orrick, Tom Orrick and Billy Orrick; sister, Jewell; son-in-law, Charles Carr, Jr.; and his parents, Willie and Belva Orrick.
Pallbearers were nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Vina Baptist Church, the Vina Fire and Civil Defense Fund or your favorite charity.
Melton Lee Sparks

Melton Lee Sparks, 82, of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009 in Hamilton. He was born January 17, 1927 in Belmont, Miss. to Willis V. and Maggie Isabell Scott Sparks. He was a truck driver and a charter member of Gravel Springs Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held April 14, 2009 at Gravel Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Hamilton with Bro. Ronnie Geary officiating. Burial was in Gravel Springs Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home assisted the family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronald Lee Sparks; sisters, Reba Henley and Elaine Sparks; brothers, Willie Joe Sparks, Kellus Sparks, Ross Sparks and Hautis Sparks.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Sparks, of Hamilton; five children, Linda Taylor and husband, Jerry, Leila Lindsey and husband, Eldon, and Martha Bowling and husband, Billy, all of Hamilton, Lou Ellen Cann and husband, Lewis, of Avenger, Texas and Paula Sellman, of West Point, Miss.; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Audrey Nunley, Myra Sparks and Peggy Adams, all of Belmont, Miss.; four brothers, James Sparks, Bryan Sparks and Billy Wayne Sparks, all of Belmont, Miss., and Dalton Sparks, of Tupelo, Miss.
Pallbearers were Randy Taylor, Keith Bowling, Stephen Sparks, Laddie Davis, Hunter Bowling and Devon Sellman.
Lawton Waine Owen

Lawton Waine Owen, 70, of Haleyville, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper.
He was a retired businessman, served in the Army National Guard, a member of the Haleyville Masonic Lodge #464 and the Free State Shrine Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Corinth Heights Baptist Church, both in Haleyville.
Funeral services were held April 13, 2009 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Dr. T.B. Stringfellow officiating. Burial was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Owen; daughter, Divana Elkins and husband, Keith, of Haleyville; grandchildren, Blake Benton, of Birmingham, Beau Benton, of Haleyville, and Emma Grace Elkins, of Haleyville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Idell Owen.
