    Berniece Works

    Berniece Works, 90, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in DeRidder, La.
    She was born May 9, 1918 in Red Bay to Clovis and Roxie Moore Prestage. She lived most of her life in Red Bay and was formerly a sales associate being employed at Faust Drugs and Fashion Bazaar, both in Red Bay. She had been a resident of DeRidder, La. for the past year.
    She was a member of Cornerstone Church of God in Red Bay.
    Funeral services were held March 23, 2009 at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, with Bro. Jerry Glenn officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Red Bay.
    She is survived by a son, Bob Works and wife, Donna, of DeRidder, La.; one granddaughter, Tina Marguerite Works Indest and husband, Brent, of New Iberia, La.; and one great-granddaughter, Jessica Marguerite Indest, of New Iberia, La.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Arnold Works, and her brothers and sisters.
    Tiny Gober

    Tiny Gober, 85, of Red Bay, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009 at her home.
    She was born November 1, 1923 in Franklin County, Tenn. to Nash and Laurens Gillette Hardin. She was a member of Burnout Missionary Baptist Church.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Dovie Emerson and her brother, Jim Hardin
    Funeral services were held, March 22, 2009 at Burnout Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Hindman and Bro. Charles James officiating.
    Burial was in Burnout Cemetery.
    She was survived by her husband of 62 years, J.C. Gober; three children, Betty Bolton, of Muscle Shoals, Donald Gober and wife, Dorothy, of Red Bay, and Laura Cabell and husband, John, of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Angela Scott and husband, Todd, Daryl Gober, Dorinda Edwards and husband, Kenneth, Derek Gober and wife, Bethany, Elizabeth Cabell and John Cabell; three great-grandchildren, Ivie Scott, Makenzie Edwards and Miles Edwards; one sister, Marley Mae Thorn, of Red Bay; two brothers, Chester Hardin and Bob Hardin, both of Red Bay.
    Pallbearers were Daryl Gober, Derek Gober, John Cabell, Todd Scott, Kenneth Edwards and Nash Hardin.
    The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Jeanette, Sonya, Elene, Pam and the Hospice of North Alabama.
    Elmer W. Griffus

    Elmer W. Griffus, 67, of Phillipsburg, Mo., passed away March 15, 2009 at Christian Health Care in Hermitage, Mo.
    He was born August 25, 1941 in Red Bay to Byrd and Ruby Elrod Griffus. He had worked several years for Dean Foods and had lived in Alabama prior to moving to Phillipsburg a few years ago. He was a Mason and Shriner member.
    He is survived by his wife, Mary Griffus; two sons, Michael Griffus and Stephen Griffus, both of Olive Branch, Miss.; one step-son, Chadwick Spradling, currently in the U.S. Navy; three granddaughters and three step-grandsons; and two sisters, Stella Hardin and Jeanette McCalpin and husband, James.
    Funeral services were held March 21, 2009 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Loyd Ray Griffus and Rev. W.D. Humphres officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery in Vina, Ala.
    Pallbearers were James "Bubba" Martin, Ricky Brown, R.V. Holland, Jonathan Davis, Stanley Brown and Steve Stringfellow.
    Richard Chester Walker

    Richard Chester Walker, 80, of Haleyville, passed away March 20, 2009 at Lakeland Hospital in Haleyville.
    He was retired from Haleyville Textile Mill, a member of Haleyville Masonic Lodge #464, a member of County Line Methodist Church. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Haleyville Fire Dept.
    Funeral services were held March 22, 2009 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Steve Lolley and Terry Duncan officiating. Burial was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
    He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Marie Walker; children, Sheila Mayhall, Richard Chester Walker, Jr., and Marisa Hughes; sisters, Nell Camp, Florence Cagle, Ann Hurt, Rena Hood and Joyce Burleson; brothers, Harold Walker and Earl Walker; grandchildren, Tonya Cavnar, Timothy Walker Robertson, Lindsey Robertson, Chad Walker, Nicole Walker, John Hughes, Walker Hughes, Caleb Mayhall, Sarah Hughes, Melina Plants and Joey Davis; great-grandchildren, Adyson Robertson, Walker Cavnar, Davis Cavnar, Keller Walker, Peyton Plants, Myla Plants, Tiffany Barron and Sara Beth Davis.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Gainey and Carrie Walker; brothers, Crantford Walker and Mayo Walker; and sister, Willowdean Taylor.
    Stanley Oneal Cansler

    Stanley Oneal Cansler, 66, of Phil Campbell, Ala. passed away on March 22, 2009 at Helen Keller Hospital.
    The visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at Spry Memorial Chapel in Russellville. His body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009 at Spruce Pine Baptist Church with the service immediately following. Officiating will be Bro. Jim Poss and Bro. Kent Walker. Interment will be in Spruce Pine Cemetery.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Pauline Enlow Cansler.
    He is survived by his wife, Minnie Montgomery Cansler; daughter, Elizabeth Borden and husband, Steven; brothers, Wayne Cansler and wife, Vivian, of Spruce Pine, and Buell Cansler and wife, Teresa, of Phil Campbell; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    Hoyt Turbyfill

    Hoyt Turbyfill, 76, of
    of Lenoir City, Tenn., formerly of Russellville, passed away Friday, March 20, 2009.
    Mr. Turbyfill was a faithful and active member of the Church of Christ. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother and friend to many.
    Mr. Turbyfill was born in Russellville, received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of North Alabama and a Masters Degree from the University of Alabama. He retired after 37 years of service in Operations from Vulcan Materials Company.
    Mr. Turbyfill enjoyed golf and was a member of the University of Alabama Alumni Association.
    He was preceded in death by sons, Joe Bradley, William Gregory and John Roderick Turbyfill; parents, John and Sula Turbyfill; brother, Joe W. Turbyfill.
    Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Margie Turbyfill; sisters, Betty Tinsley and husband, Ellis; Arma Hendrix and husband, Howard; and Judy Meeks; many nieces, nephews and special friends.
    Graveside services and interment were held at Edgewood Cemetery.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

    Neil Venson Hodge, 61, of Sheffield, Ala. passed away on March 23, 2009 at UAB Hospital.
    The visitation will be 6 p.m. to
    8 p.m. March 25, 2009 at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. March 26 at Spry Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Dr. Frank Whitaker. Interment will be in Franklin Memory Gardens.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nora Edna Hodge.
    He is survived by his sons, Brad Hodge and wife, Alicia of Mt. Olive, Ala., Bryan Hodge and wife, Nicky, of Edmond, Okla.; sister, Jane Denton and husband, Cecil, of Sheffield, Ala.; brothers, John Hodge and wife, Sandra, of Russellville, J.W. Hodge and wife, Cyndi, of Mooresville, N.C.; two grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
