Red Bay boys roll past Lauderdale County, Lady Tigers swept

RED BAY – The Red Bay boys tennis team earned its first match win of the season Monday, but the girls team struggled as the Tigers split with Lauderdale County.
In boys action, Red Bay rolled past the visiting Tigers 6-3.
Toby Gray defeated Jesse Thompson 8-4 and Chris Funderburk knocked off Matthew Jones as Red Bays top two singles players earned wins.
In the No.-3 slot Lauderdale County's Daniel Tiede beat John Thigpen 8-6. Kirk Armstrong got Red Bay back into the win column with an 8-6 victory against hunter Graham.
The teams split the final two singles matches with Lauderdale County's Morgan Yadacus beating Justin Roberts 8-3 and Red Bay's Roman Lynch topping Will Wright 8-4.
Red Bay took two of the doubles matches as the team of Gray-Armstrong defeated Thompson and Jones 8-2 while Thigpen and Lynch beat Tiede and Yadacus 8-2.
The lone doubles loss for Red Bay came when Graham and Wright defeated Roberts and Funderburk 9-8.
With the win, Red Bay improves to 1-1 on the season and will travel to Haleyville Monday. The match will begin at 3:15 p.m.
The Lady Tigers had a tougher time Monday, falling to Lauderdale County 9-0.
In singles action, Kellyn Williams defeated Caitlin Childers 8-1, Emma Lansdell beat Morgan Duncan 8-4, Haleigh Woddard topped Shantell Nichols 8-0, Megan Love knocked off Morgan McKinney 8-2, Shelby Peden beat Deidra Shewbart 8-0 and Sarah Weems defeated Nealea McKinney 8-0.
Lauderdale County also swept the doubles portion of the match with Williams and Lansdell beating Childers and Duncan 8-2 while Woodard and Love beating Nichols and Morgan McKinney 8-4 and Peden Weems topping Shelby Childers and a Oliver 8-1.
With the loss Red Bay falls to 0-1 on the season. The Lady Tigers will travel to Florence Thursday to play Shoals Christian at 4 p.m.
