Local business offers unique trike
Melissa Cason
Imagine having a motor trike with the comforts of a car including air conditioning, heat, radio, a steering wheel and trunk space. Now, stop imagining and embrace the future of motor trikes.
Trikes Unlimited in Russellville is one of only two dealerships in Alabama to have The Stallion, a motorcycle with the comfort and controls of a car.
"We have had a lot of interest in The Stallion," Scott Collum, Trikes Unlimited owner, said. "People haven't seen anything like this before, and it's generated a lot of interest."
Collum said they have had the motorcycle for a week, and they expect there to be more people come in and ask about the new addition.
"We are one of two places in Alabama that carries this bike," Collum said. "The other place is in Dothan."
Collum said the new bike hit the market in January 2008 so it's a relatively new product, and there are only about 400 on the road today.
"It has a Ford motor in it," Collum said. "It's still a motorcycle because it has three wheels, and helmets must be worn."
Collum said The Stallion gets about 45 miles per gallon of gas on the highway and around 35 miles per gallon in the city areas.
"The Stallion gets really good gas mileage, but it cost less than buying a motorcycle and then having it triked out," Collum said.
Some of the features of The Stallion include Ford 2.3 litre motor, air conditioning and heat for both the passenger and the driver, five speed automatic transmission with reverse, AM-FM radio with CD player and MP3 and satellite radio capabilities, power front and rear disc brakes, trunk, trailer hitch, and interior lighting.
The Stallion is a product of Thoroughbred Motorsports, a division of Motortrikes.
For more information on The Stallion, visit Trikes Unlimited in Russellville or call 332-8282.
