Brawl mars image of Alabama athletics

By Staff
The Alabama High School Athletic Association did the only thing they could this week by kicking the Valley High School and Carver-Montgomery boys basketball teams out of the state playoffs following one of the worst brawls in recent memory.
It is easy to dismiss the unfortunate melee as kids being kids, but that is completely inaccurate.
Video of the brawl shows fans in the stands climbing on top of one another throwing punches and swinging wildly.
Anyone who watches the video will see players hitting and kicking both players and non-players who came onto the floor to fight. They'll see security personnel clearly overwhelmed by the fighting in the stands.
Such brawls are becoming far too common at high school sporting events in Alabama, and the athletic association and school officials are right to come down hard on the schools and individuals involved in this disgusting melee.
