Bobcats fall 23-13

PHIL CAMPBELL – Phil Campbell's quest to win its first region game of the year was slowed Friday night by Tanner's Monterice Cosby.
Cosby rushed for 116 yards against the Bobcats and scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the No. 10 Rattlers to a 23-13 victory.
Cosby opened the scoring with a 7-yard run in the first quarter then added to the lead with and 11-yard run.
Phil Campbell (0-2, 0-1) answered the second Tanner touchdown by driving to the Rattler 35-yard line, but the drive ended when Cosby intercepted a pass at the Tanner 5.
The Bobcats got on the scoreboard with 4:33 remaining in the second quarter when Dylan Hamby reached the end zone on a 3-yard run. Adam Mitchell kicked the extra point to cut the lead to 17-7.
Tanner dodged a bullet in the third quarter when Phil Campbell punted and recovered the ball after it hit a Rattler player. After failing to move the ball, the Bobcats tried a fake field goal on fourth down and scored, but a penalty wiped the strike off the scoreboard. The Bobcats were unable to pick up the first down and turned the ball over.
The Rattlers took the ball and drove deep into Phil Campbell territory, but fumbled on the 1-yard line and the Bobcats recovered the ball. Phil Campbell quarterback Jordan Benford was sacked on the next play for a safety to extend the Rattler lead to 16-7.
Tanner padded its lead again when Dominique Randolph returned an interception 29 yards for a touchdown.
Phil Campbell cut into the lead when Benford hit Mitchell for a 30-yard touchdown pass, cutting the Tanner lead to 23-13. the Bobcats were unable to get the ball back and Tanner held on for the victory.
Benford completed five passes for 47 yards while Mitchell caught two passes for 40 yards.
Daniel Bryant led the Bobcats with 36 rushing yards on 12 carries. Seth Brown led the defense with seven tackles.
Phil Campbell travels to Clements Friday.
