Belgreen cheerleaders rack up awards

BELGREEN – When Belgreen basketball fans head to the gym this fall, they will get some top-notch entertainment both on the court and from the cheerleaders.
The cheerleaders won several awards over the summer at the National Cheerleading Association camp at Auburn University. Both the varsity and junior varsity squads competed.
The varsity team won five superior ribbons, a chant contest, a motion technique award, a spirit stick and a spot award – given to teams that display excellent technique in safety, spotting and stunts.
They also won the Herkie TEAM Award, which is given to the squad that shows true team spirit, unity and leadership throughout the week of the camp.
The junior varsity squad also won some awards including two excellent ribbons, three superior ribbons, a spot award, and most improved junior varsity squad.
Some team members also earned individual honors.
Lauren Brown, Tori House and co-captains Jessica Kirby and Emily Sherrod tried out for All-American cheerleader. Kirby, Sherrod and Brown were selected for the honor.
Kayla Voyles earned All-American honors as a mascot, was named best all around mascot and won a spirit stick.
Three junior varsity members – Morgan Bradford and co-captains Bridget Thompson and Kayla Byrd – tried out for All-American, but were not selected.
Members of the varsity squad include Brown, Whitney Devaney, Summer Hester, House, Kirby, Sara McMahan, Ali Scott, Tiffany Seal, Sherrod and Voyles. They are coached by Rachel Hall.
Members of the junior varsity squad include Bradford, Lexie Bragwell, Byrd, Katey Hargett, Brooklyn Massey, Lacey Oliver, Jasmine Rickard, Katelynn Scott, Thompson and Chloe Wallace. They are coached by Beth Hargett.
