Antique tractor show added to festival
Melissa Cason
This year's Watermelon Festival will have several new aspects added to it in addition to the old favorites that have made it a success over the years.
The antique tractor show is just one of the new additions to this year's festival.
Gerome Jackson, show organizer, expects around 50 tractors to participate in the event.
"I am going to bring four tractors, and I know another person is bringing six or seven tractors for the show," Jackson said. "Established shows get 100 to 150 tractors, so we can expect around 50 tractors since this is the first show in Franklin County."
The show is sponsored by the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, and awards will be given for People's choice, Mayor's choice, and Best of Show.
"My tractors will be for display only since I am organizing the tractor show," Jackson said.
The show will begin at 9 a.m. with a prayer and the playing of our national anthem.
"We will also have free events for the kids including a pedal tractor pull," Jackson said.
The pedal tractor pull is set to begin at 11 a.m. and will be divided by age groups.
"We have donated items for each child that participates in addition to the prizes for the winners of the tractor pull," Jackson said. "That way everyone wins something."
Jackson said there will door prizes and other give-a-ways at teh tractor show.
There is no charge to have a tractor in the show.
