A group of agencies throughout Franklin County are working together to implement a geographic information system that could help lead the region in that area.
The system would provide a comprehensive database so the agencies could share information with one another, and eventually, with the public.
Almost all of the funding for the project is being provided through grant money, including $5,000 that state Sen. Roger Bedford secured this week.
The Appalachian Region Commission, who has also provided grant money, has indicated that the federal government is watching to see how Franklin County does with the project because it could be a model for others throughout the country.
Working together is vital for all we do in this county whether it be looking for more jobs or improving the quality of life here.
The agencies working together should be commended for their efforts. Hopefully the few remaining departments who chose not to participate in this initial effort will soon get on board as well.
