Important November looming

Is this the most important presidential election the United States has ever had?
How important is electing your candidate to you?
Have you chosen the candidate you will vote for?
These are important questions that all of us should prayerfully consider.
We will be bombarded with news reports and advertisements by the candidates and their supporters. Unfortunately the candidates will probably go negative in their campaign advertising.
With most of the media's opinions being biased, how can we discern what is the truth in all the reports we read and hear?
At some time we will make the decision as to whom we will cast our vote for.
We will also decide if we want Senator Jeff Sessions and Representative Robert Aderholt to return to Washington to continue to serve us in the United States Congress. Franklin County has ties to both men.
Senator Sessions practiced law in Russellville early in his career, and Representative Aderholt is a Winston County native.
Gary Warren of Haleyville is running for the state school board. He has many years of education experience.
It is important that we elect Gary as he is opposed to the double dipping in the Community College System that was costing Alabama taxpayers countless dollars each year.
We will also elect judges for the Alabama Supreme Court, Appellate Courts, and the Public Service Commission President.
Locally we will elect the Revenue Commissioner, County Commissioners, District Three school board member and the Mayors and City Council Members.
You have a great opportunity to determine what direction our nation, county and cities will take for the next four years.
After prayerfully considering the candidates, volunteer to help them win their positions.
As chairman of the Franklin County Republican Executive Committee, I invite you to get involved with our committee as we help our candidates win their positions.
You can begin by coming to our next meeting at 7:00 pm on July 29, 2008 in the old Guin law office building just north of the Court House.
This is the building where Senator Jeff Session worked when he was in Russellville.
Jerry Fancher is Chairman of the Franklin County Republican Executive Committee. He can be reached via email at jfanchergop@yahoo.com.
