Police seek man on sodomy charge

By Staff

Investigators are looking for a man who they believe sodomized a 5 year-old girl.
Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said officers have a warrant for Jeffrey Wade Lovelady, 19, of Ridgecrest Apartment C in Russellville.
He is being charged with two counts of first-degree sodomy.
Hargett said the charges stem from two separate incidents that occurred in 2005 at a residence in Russellville.
The alleged victim was 5 years old at the time, which was reported to authorities on June 26.
"We have been unable to locate Mr. Lovelady since the time the warrants for his arrest were issued," Hargett said.
The Alabama Criminal Code describes first-degree sodomy as "deviate sexual intercourse with another person by forcible compulsion," or "he, being 16 years old or older, engages in deviate sexual intercourse with a person who is less than 12 years old."
Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said there is no statute of limitations on first-degree sodomy because of the nature of the crime, and especially because it involves a young child, under the age of 12.
Hargett asks anyone with any information as to the whereabouts of Lovelady call 332-2230 or dial 911.
