Bruce A. Crowe

Bruce Alan Crowe, 60, of Russellville, passed away June 22, 2008, after a lengthy illness.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Pinkard Funeral Home followed by a memorial service.
Dr. Crowe earned a Bachelor of Science in education, a Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts from the University of Alabama, as well as a Doctor of Education from Mississippi State University. He was an art professor at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa for 15 years before moving to Russellville and teaching at Shoals Community College for the next 17 years.
He was a dedicated teacher as well as a talented artist. He received numerous awards and prizes throughout the state for his artwork.
Survivors include his wife Karen Ward Crowe; daughter and son-in-law Allyson and Luke Robinson and granddaughter, Rebecca Jane, of Birmingham; three brothers, Stephen Crowe and wife, Elaine, of Quincy, Ill., Danny Crowe and wife, Patti, of Lafayette, La., John Crowe of Harrogate, England; mother-in-law, Betty Woodruff Ward, of Huntsville, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Bruce's many wonderful friends, as well as the doctors and staff at North Alabama Cancer Center and Russellville Hospital for their excellent care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital or to any cancer research organization.
James W. Humphres

James Willis Humphres, 68, of Mooreville, Miss., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, 2008.
He was born in Red Bay to the late Elton and Hester Humphres on Feb. 16, 1940.
He worked as a supervisor for Charm Step Shoe Company and Krueger Metal until his health failed.
He loved his family dearly and was loved so much in return. He was a devout Christian man who was always ready to share his testimony with others. He was an active member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Verona, Miss., with Bro. Kerry Nelson and Bro. Joe Holcomb officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of the Resurrection at lee Memorial Park.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dorothy Humphres; four daughters, Charlotte Ellis (Jerry), Denise Adams (Larry), Selena Ragsdale, (Jeromy), and Cathie Stacy; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Simmons, Matt Ellis, Natasha Brown, Bradley Adams, Jordan Humphres, Kodee Shelby and Jaylee Ragsdale; two sisters, Loueva Lucas (Frankie) and Jeanette Mills (John Henry); one brother, Steve Humphres (Judy); four great-grandchildren, Kyle Simmons, Eli Simmons, Mattie Kate Ellis and Catelyn Brown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Hester Humphres; two brothers, Larry Humphres and Curtis Humphres; one sister-in-law, Dean Ryman; one brother-in-law, Bud Ryman; and an infant brother, Willis Humphres.
Pallbearers will be Matt Ellis, Charles Simmons, Bradley Adams, Jeff Humphres, John Mills, Adam Humphres and Greg Lucas. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Humphres, Kodee Shelby, Kyle Simmons and Eli Simmons.
Austin T. Floyd

Austin Tritt Floyd, 14, of Haleyville, passed away Friday, June 20, 2008.
He was a student at Haleyville High School where he played football and baseball.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 23, 2008, at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville with Andy Kizer officiating. Burial was in Winston Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his parents, Chaka and Dennis Hutcheson; brothers, Aaron, Evan and Garrett Hutcheson; grandparents, Carolyn and Dennis Baker; grandfather, Roland Floyd; great-grandmother, Marcell Canida; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Edith J. Williams

Edith J. Williams, 92, of Vina, died June 20, 2008, at Care Center of Red Bay.
She was born in Alabama on April 30, 1916, to Joseph and Mary Baggett Baldwin. She was a member of Atwood Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Curtis Williams, four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Ries (Bob), of Palm Harbor, Fla.; son, Tom Williams (Charlotte), of Vina; two grandchildren, Connie Dentter (Mark), of Conyers, Ga., and Tommy Williams (Pamela), of Red Bay; eight great-grandchildren.
Paul E. Prestage

Paul Eugene Prestage, 77, of Red Bay, died June 21, 2008, at UAB Hospital.
He was born February 22, 1931, in Mississippi to Clovis and Roxie Moore Prestage. He was a football coach for 18 years and was a member of First Baptist Church, Red Bay. He was in the U.S. Army serving in the Korean conflict as a MP. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay. Burial was in Ridge Cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Paula Prestage Bullen, of Florence; son, Michael E. Prestage, of Red Bay; three grandchildren, John Coltsworth Bullen III (Haley), Blake Jamison Bullen and Steven Anthony Prestage; one great-grandchild, John Conner Bullen IV; one sister, Berniece Works, of Red Bay.
Billy E. King

Billy Earl King, of Haleyville, went home to be with the Lord on June 17, 2008, in a Birmingham hospital.
He was a member of Corinth Heights Baptist Church and also attended Trinity Baptist Church.
He was the owner of King Pipelines for 35 years. He was also known in Haleyville as "Syrupy" and inducted into the Winston County Hall of Fame in 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; two sons, Rex (Ann) King, Rian (Gina) King; one daughter, Karen (Kenneth) Benford; grandchildren, John King, Josh King, Lindsay King, Kolby Benford, Lori and Toni King.
He is also survived by his loving mother, Lethie King, age 95 and doing well, and a special cousin, Carolyn Koryee.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey King.
Pallbearers were family and friends.
Willodean Borum

Willodean Borum, 84, of Russellville, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at Huntsville Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mrs. Borum lived her entire life in Franklin County and was a member of South Side Baptist Church in Russellville. She was a retired nurse and had worked in the foster grandparent program.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Pinkard Funeral Home with Mike Stancil officiating. Burial was in New Friendship Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Jim Borum, of Franklin, Tenn.; daughter, Carol Hester and husband, Gary, of Russellville; brother, O'Neal Bragwell, of Tuscumbia; sister, Eva Weimer, of Russellville; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Borum; parents, Ell and Pearl Bragwell; sister, Maxine King.
Vernell Elkins

Vernell Elkins, 73, of Phil Campbell, passed away Monday, June 23, 2008, at ECM Hospital.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. James McCullar officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Gertrude Munn Ashley; brothers, Calvin Ashley, Clayton Ashley and Cecil Ashley; sisters, Brenda Robinson and Ruth Barnett.
She is survived by her husband, Johney Elkins; stepmother, Beatrice Ashley; daughters, Dorothy Elkins, Debbie Elkins and Brenda and James Orrick; son, Tony and Alice Elkins; brothers, Charles Ashley, Carl Ashley; sisters, Louise Frazier, Cathlene Oden; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
