Lowery tosses no-hitter in area win for Red Bay

Senior righthander Randy Lowery pitched a six-inning no-hitter on Monday as Red Bay earned its first area win with a 10-0 victory over county rival Belgreen.
Lowery finished with eight strikeouts and walked just two.
Lowery also had a standout day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and a triple. He tripled and scored Red Bay's 10th and final run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Bradley Long also had a big day for the Tigers (3-13, 1-4 Class 2A, Area 16), finishing 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs.
Kennedy was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored, and Chad Nichols was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Brent Sartin added a double for Red Bay.

Vina 10 Brilliant 1
Gary Taylor struck out 14 batters in a complete game one-hitter on Monday as the Red Devils evened their record in Class 1A, Area 13 at 1-1.
After walking three batters and hitting another in the top of the first inning, Taylor settled into a groove and allowed just one hit and one walk the rest of the way despite aggravating an ankle injury he initially sustained against Waterloo on March 18.
Taylor lost his bid for a no-hitter in the sixth inning.
Vina took the lead for good in the bottom of the first on sacrifice flies by Taylor and Corey Scott.
The Red Devils added three more runs in the third inning.
Taylor singled, stole second and later scored on a sac fly by Rodney Barnes. Luke Childers walked and Paul Wilkins singled, and both runners later scored on an error to make it 5-1.
Vina added another run in the fourth and then put the game away with four runs in the fifth.
Anthony Hester delivered a two-run double and then scored on a single by Kerry Lawler. Lawler later came home on a sacrifice fly by Taylor.
Taylor, Childers and Max Weeks each had two hits.
Boys Tennis-Red Bay 5 Rogers 4
Evan Mann led the Tigers (3-1) to last Thursday's win with a 10-2 victory at No. 1 singles.
Wesley Jarnigan and Matt Russell also earned singles wins for Red Bay. Jarnigan and Kyle Glasgow teamed up for a doubles win, as did Russell and Matt Young.
Girls Tennis-Rogers 7 Red Bay 2
Julie Jarnigan earned a 10-6 win at No. 1 singles for the Lady Tigers (1-3).
