Long ball lifts Russellville girls to win over Deshler

RUSSELLVILLE - Kayla Stephens hit a pair of home runs and Lyndi McDuffa also went deep on Tuesday as Russellville rallied from an early deficit to claim a 10-5 victory over Deshler.
The visiting Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first, but Stephens blasted a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to highlight a Russellville rally that tied the game 4-4.
Deshler regained the lead with a run in the top of the fourth, but Stephens hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth as the Lady Golden Tigers tallied two runs to take a 6-5 lead.
Russellville (3-7) then put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The three home runs hit by the Lady Golden Tigers on Tuesday were their first three of the season.
Stephens also had a single on Tuesday and finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Kara Sykes added two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Golden Tigers, and Kelli Badgett was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
McDuffa also went 2-for-4.
Anna Stanford was the winning pitcher for Russellville. Stanford (3-7) scattered seven hits in seven innings, walking one.
The Lady Golden Tigers committed three errors in the top of the first, helping Deshler score four early runs.
Jessica Malone, Kayla Harvey and Tiffany Watkins each added one hit for Russellville.
Russellville was scheduled to travel to Athens Thursday.
Kristi Haney led Deshler with two hits.
In other local action:
Cherokee 6 Belgreen 2
Samantha Price held Belgreen to two hits in a complete game, and Mallory Tuberville had a double and a single to lead Cherokee at the plate in Tuesday's win.
Krystal Elliott and Morgan Bonds each had one hit for the Lady Indians (11-9).
