Council supports keeping 115th

At Monday night's meeting, the Russellville City Council joined the Franklin County Commission in passing a resolution supporting the existence of the local Alabama National Guard 115th Signal Battalion.
Councilman "Tinker" Malone, who recently retired from the National Guard, said there is a rumor that the state of Alabama will be re-organizing and re-vamping the local National Guard armories, and that the local unit might be on the list to be closed.
The 115th Signal Battalion recently returned from a one-year deployment in Iraq.
In other business Monday, the council voted to allow Mayor Johnny Brown to sign documents with the Municipal Code Corporation to allow re-publication of the Russellville city code on the city's Internet website.
Brown thanked city clerk Kim Wright for her help in the website project.
