Smith, Borders

Charles and Shirley Smith of Alvin, Texas, and Hansel and Jacque Sparkman of Scooba announce the engagement of their daughter, Carrie Lynne Smith, to Richard Dennis Borders, son of Dennis Borders and Perry and Betty Lancaster of Spartanburg, S.C.
The wedding will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at 6 p.m. at Druid Hills United Methodist Church, Meridian.
Ms. Smith is the granddaughter of Mamie Cochran of Scooba and the late Keith Cochran and the late Bobbie Ainsworth of Angleton, Texas.
The bride-elect, a graduate of Kemper County High School, received a bachelor of science degree in sociology and psychology from the University of West Alabama.
Ms. Smith is employed by Meridian Surgery Center.
Mr. Borders is the grandson of Carrie McKee of Boiling Springs, S.C., and the late Bill Gilbert Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Borders of Cherokee, S.C.
The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of Dorman High School in Spartanburg, S.C., and received a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and political science from the University of South Carolina in Spartanburg.
While attending USC, he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, the Student Government Association and the National Arts Honor Society.
Mr. Borders is employed by Amtrak.
A reception will be held at Union Station following the ceremony.
