West Lauderdale bangs out win over Meridian

Thursday night's West Lauderdale-Meridian High School slow-pitch softball game was touted as a showdown between two undefeated teams.
What it turned out to be was a slugfest that saw 36 hits, 11 errors and 24 runs scored.
In the end, the visiting Lady Knights took advantage of some key MHS errors by delivering some clutch hits to take a 15-9 win at the Northeast Softball Complex.
But the win didn't come without a fight.
It looked as if the defending MHSAA Class 3A State Champion Lady Knights were going to take charge of the game early when they scored four runs on six hits in the top of the first inning.
But the Lady Wildcats simply weren't ready to give in.
Meridian responded by scoring four runs by banging out five hits in the bottom of the first, including doubles by Lainie Simcox and Brandi Limerick and a two-run triple off the bat of Artesian Boyd.
West Lauderdale stretched it's lead out to 11-6 going into the bottom of the fifth, but the Lady Knights made their only three errors of the game in that half inning to help the Lady Wildcats cut the WL lead to 11-9.
