Quitman plans to raise bar

QUITMAN The Quitman High School Lady Panthers hope to raise the bar to another level during the 2004 slow-pitch season.
In 2003, Quitman captured its first district championship. With six starters returning from last year's 16-10 team, coach D'Aunn Odom hopes for a repeat as district champions and a chance to go further into the playoffs.
Alison Herring will be the pitcher, while Sasha Phillips will handle the catching chores. Rebecca Riley will start at first base, and Amanda Herring will play second. Lindsey Martin is the shortstop, and Anna Laura Fontenot will be the third baseman. The outfield will be made up of Alice McCarty in leftfield, Jessica Creighton at left center field, Gabby Morgan at right center field and either Krystyn Davis or Constance Jones in right field.
The Lady Panthers will compete in a district with Wayne County, West Jones, South Jones and South Jones.
The Lady Panthers competed in the Clarkdale Classic on Saturday. They have a busy schedule this week, visiting Clarkdale on Tuesday, and hosting Northeast Lauderdale on Thursday and Southeast Lauderdale on Saturday.
