Diamondgirls open with victory

The Newton County Diamondgirls opened USSSA 10-Under Slow-Pitch World Series with a pair of wins on Thursday in Lafayette, La.
The Diamondgirls won their pool by beating the Oklahoma Predators 6-3 and then blanking the Louisiana Little Dolls 12-0.
Top hitters on the day for the winners were Tori Holson, Amber Spann, Katie Vance and Tori dew. Sarah Harris, Shelby Bishop and Emily Davis were credited with strong defense.
No reports on Friday's games were received before the deadline for Saturday's paper.
No results from the Meridian 13-year-old Babe Ruth team, the 12-year-old Cal Ripken team or the 9-year-old Cal Ripken team were received by deadline.
