Meridian High School seniors Kate Crawford and Andrew Havron were recently chosen to participate in the 2004 session of the Mississippi Governor's School.
The Governor's School is a residential honors program established in 1981 by Gov. William F. Winter at Mississippi University for Women.
The school is designed to provide academic, creative and leadership experiences for a limited number of rising high school juniors and seniors who have demonstrated exceptional ability and achievement in their studies and who show high intellectual, creative and leadership potential.
Crawford is the daughter of Bill and Lynn Crawford of Meridian. She was recently awarded first and second year academic letters at MHS, and she was named to Who's Who Among American High School Students. She is a Leadership Lauderdale Youth graduate and a member of the youth group at The Church of the Mediator.
Havron is the son of Ray and Lorraine Havron of Meridian. He recently received awards in biology, Spanish and American history at MHS. He received the Perfect Score Award in math on the Functional Literacy Exam, he was an Academic Team medalist and he received the Outstanding Musician Award. He is a member of the National Honor Society, and will serve as the MHS Chapter President this fall. He is an Eagle Scout and a member of Troop 9 in Meridian. He plans to pursue a career in either aerospace engineering or medicine.
Rob Eason, a student from Ross Collins Career and Technical Center, recently placed 13th out of more than 40 contestants in residential wiring at the Skills USA VICA National competition held in Kansas City, Mo.
Jeremy Rodgers of Meridian was recently among 91 students named to the Dean's List for the spring 2004 semester at Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, Pa.
Jeffrey Eugene May recently graduated as salutatorian of Meridian High School. He had a grade point average of 4.33.
May also received the Meyer Davidson Leadership Award presented to a graduating senior who exhibits the qualities of leadership, personal integrity, all-around citizenship and acknowledgement of leadership abilities by fellow students. Excellence in scholarship and participation in extracurricular activities are also considered.
He received the Senior Social Studies award and the Maude Smith English Award. He also has received scholarship offers from the University of Tennessee, the University of Alabama, the University of Mississippi, the University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University. He will enter MSU in the fall and plans to major in chemical engineering.
He is the son of Neil May and Lynn May.
