WASHINGTON U.S. Sens. Thad Cochran and Trent Lott and U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering announced Wednesday that the Long Creek Water Association has been awarded a $2.89 million loan.
The money, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will be used to improve the water system. Long Creek serves about 3,100 customers in southeast Lauderdale County and northeast Clarke County.
The loan will fund construction of a 300,000-gallon elevated water storage tank, a 600-gallon well and treatment plant and 21 miles of water line. The Water and Waste Disposal Loan is on a 40 year-term at 4.375 percent interest.
Pickering agreed.
