MCC splits two with Delgado

Meridian Community College split a doubleheader with Delgado Community College in New Orleans on Saturday afternoon.
MCC, now 32-7 overall, won the opener 1-0 behind strong pitching from Chad Catalano. Van Pope picked up the save for the Eagles.
Josh Morgan had a single and double for MCC, while Pope and Michael Murray added a single each.
Delgado (30-13) won the second game 5-1.
Kyle Ginn had a single and double for MCC, while Aaron George belted a double and Drew Van Sickle and Murray had a single each. Matthew Rozier took the loss on the mound for the Eagles.
MCC plays host to Hinds Community College in a key MACJC Central Division doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

East Mississippi Community College not only improved its MACJC Central Division record to 6-6 with a two-game sweep of homestanding Hinds Community College, but also made the folks at Meridian Community College pretty happy.
The two losses dropped Hinds to 10-4 in league play, while Meridian is 9-3. Hinds has only two division games remaining, at Meridian on Tuesday. While MCC hosts Hinds and then visits East Central Community College later in the week.
Andrew Pylate (3-6) went eight strong innings on the mound to pick up the win in the opener, while Jonathan Russell came on to pick up the save.
Justin Faulkner led EMCC, now 14-24 overall, at the plate with a single, double and three RBIs, while David Nanney had three hits and two RBIs and Chris Stamps had a single and a double. Nathan Mordecai had two singles and an RBI for the Lions.
The second game saw former Northeast Lauderdale standout Will Matlock (4-3) go the distance for EMCC to pick up the win on the mound.
Brandon Mabry and Dusty Snider had two hits each for EMCC, while Rod Williams and Mordecai had a double and two RBIs each for the Lions and Russell Bourland also drove in a pair of runs.
East Mississippi pays a visit to East Central on Tuesday.

Meridian Community College and East Mississippi Community College split a MACJC Central Division doubleheader in Scooba on Saturday afternoon.
Raleigh Odom belted a homer and two singles and drove in five runs to lead Meridian to an 8-4 win in the opener, while Jessica Lawrence had a double and single and Kirby Shelby added two singles.
Kristi Smith had two hits for EMCC, while Stephanie Choo (8-15) picked up the win on the mound for the Lady Eagles.
Allison Morgan had two hits to lead EMCC to the 5-4 win in the nightcap.
Nikki McClaskey and Sheena Evans had a single and double each for MCC, which is now 13-24 overall and 8-2 in division play.
Meridian plays host to Central Alabama at Northeast Park on Tuesday.

Drew Snider ripped a grand slam and picked up the win in relief to lead the West Lauderdale Knights to a 9-8 home win over Thomasville on Saturday night.
Parker Temple had three hits for the winners, while Bo Davis, Caleb Dulaney, Cody Freeman and Michael Pogue had two each for the 23-6 Knights.
West Lauderdale returns to action Friday when it visits Greene County to open the Class 3A playoffs with a four-team double-elimination tournament.

The Heidelberg Academy Rebels ended regular season play with a 20-0 record, whipping visiting Wayne Academy, 12-2, Friday at Mitch Gavin Memorial Field.
The Rebels, 12-0 in District 3-A, will now meet Tri-County Academy in the opening round of the Class A playoffs. Game one is Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Tri-County Academy in Flora. Game two will be Friday at Heidelberg at 4:30 p.m., with game three, if necessary, to immediately follow.
Mason Key blasted a grand slam home run in the first inning and singled in the third to pace the Rebels. Brent Welch doubled and singled twice, while Ian Sharp singled.
David Butler doubled and singled for the Jaguars and Jarred Crane singled. Paul Zeagler, 7-0, posted the win.

Keith Brown picked up two hits and Austin Wilbanks smashed a triple to lead Forest to a 4-2 win over Southeast Lauderdale on Friday night.
Kyle Dawson had a triple for SEL, while Drew Harper ripped a double and Matt Butler added a single.
Steve Dukes was the winning pitcher.

The University of West Alabama baseball team scored 31 runs and had 30 hits as the Tigers won both games of a doubleheader against Lincoln Memorial (13-29, 3-11 GSC) on Saturday in Harrogate, Tenn., winning game one 10-9 and game two by the score of 21-10.
In game one, the Tigers held a 9-1 lead after three innings of play, before Lincoln Memorial scored six runs in the sixth inning to cut the score to 9-7. West Alabama would hold on for the 10-9 victory with Shane Martin (4-1) picking up the win. Martin allowed six earned runs on 10 hits in 5 innings pitched. Brandon Boles went 2-for-2 with a home run and one RBI for the Tigers in game one. Dustin Carter had two doubles and two RBIs, while Dustin Roberts added two hits with a double and one RBI.
In game two, West Alabama trailed 10-8 going into the seventh and final inning. The Tigers then scored 13 runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 21-10 lead. Michael Riggs (3-0) picked up the win for UWA, allowing one earned run on two hits in one inning of work. Johnson Whitehead took the loss for LMU, throwing 2.2 innings and allowing 12 runs (five earned) on ten hits.
A.J. Ray went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for West Alabama in game two. Rafael Farrell had three hits with a home run, a double and four RBIs, while Jonathan Lindsey added two hits with a home run, a double and three RBI. Roberts added a solo homer, and Scott Needs went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and four RBI. Boles and Randal Minton also had two hits each in game two for the Tigers.
West Alabama moves to 28-17 overall and 8-6 in GSC play. The same two teams will play a single game on Sunday beginning at noon.

Southern Miss held Charlotte to five hits over two games to take the first two games of the three-game series between the two teams, Saturday afternoon at the Phillips Sports Complex. In the first game, the Golden Eagles won, 13-1. They then turned around to take game two, 2-0, and sweep the doubleheader.
Both pitchers had strong outings for Southern Miss (24-20, 11-3 C-USA). In the second game, Danielle Wymer picked up the win, surrendering one hit over seven innings. Wymer improved to 6-6 with the win.
In the first game, Southern Miss took a 2-0 lead in the second, when Jenkins and Davis scored. The 49ers answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs, J.J. McVay drew a walk and then came home on Kaycie Jones' double to right center.
Southern Miss' Jessica Holaway earned the win and went to 12-5 for the year.
