Library hosts Kid's Fun Day

By By Penny Randall / staff writer
April 23, 2004
Hey kids! Don't miss your chance to pet a goat, have your face painted and enjoy all-you-can-eat popcorn.
Children of all ages are invited to participate in those and other activities during the Kid's Fun Day Saturday at the Meridian-Lauderdale County Public Library, 2517 Seventh St.
Kid's Fun Day is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
In addition to a petting zoo, where children can see lizards, snakes, goats, hermit crabs and other animals, there's a fun jump, trolley rides, face-painting and live musical entertainment. Firefighters from the Meridian Fire Department will have a fire truck at the event for children to tour. All those activities will be set up behind the library.
A game for children, called "fishing for grab bags," will be set up inside the library along with art demonstrations. All activities are free. Hot dogs and sodas are 50 cents each.
The fun day is being held in conjunction with National Library Week, which ends Saturday. The week is designed to make the public more aware of what the library offers.
McLendon has worked at the library for 28 years and said the staff has hosted a fun day most of those years. The event began to grow about 10 years ago when the petting zoo was added.
For more information, call the library at 693-6771.
