Lauderdale supervisors are hoping their trash will be someone else's treasure this weekend as the county auctions off surplus equipment.
Most of the more than 100 items up for auction are vehicles.
Neal Carson, Lauderdale County engineer, said Durham Auctions, based in Brooklyn, will conduct the auction at the old county landfill location on Lakeland Drive, west of Meridian. The county sale will follow a city of Meridian auction of surplus items at the Public Works Complex at 311 27th Ave.
District 3 Supervisor Craig Hitt said everything that could be salvaged from the vehicles and other equipment had been removed.
Don Durham, owner of the auction company, will receive a percentage of each sale.
Anyone wanting to view the county's items to be auctioned can see the surplus equipment at the landfill between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. today, or beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday. The county auction begins at 1 p.m.
Meridian surplus items may be viewed at the Public Works Complex today or prior to the auction Saturday, which is scheduled from 9 a.m.-noon.
The Lauderdale County Board of Supervisors will meet Monday at 5 p.m. in the boardroom of the Raymond P. Davis Courthouse Annex, 410 Constitution Ave.
