Philly snags win over Newton Co.

Philadelphia picked up a 9-5 prep baseball victory over Newton County (12-15) on Tuesday night.
Landon Gilmer picked up the win on the mound for the Tornadoes, and Jamaal Peeples lead Philadelphia's efforts at the plate hitting three singles and a two-run home run.
Kip Turner smacked two singles and a double for Philadelphia.
Jamie Farmer notched three RBIs and hit a double for Newton County, and Josh Sheehan tallied two RBIs and a double in the loss. Will Pearson chipped in two singles for Newton County.

Newton Academy (17-5) got a complete game pitching performance from Tommy Harthcock to take the 10-run win over the Jaguars Tuesday afternoon. Harthcock allowed three hits and had six strikeouts in the win.
Blake Hedrick, Morgan Craven, John Shellenback, and Daniel Grimes each had two singles to lead the Generals at the plate.
Central Private 14
Lamar 3
The Raiders (3-16) tallied six hits in an 11-run loss to Central Private on Tuesday night at home. Drew Moffett led Lamar with two singles, and Kemp Mosley added a pair of hits in the loss.
PREP TENNIS
West Lauderdale 4
Forest 1
The West Lauderdale Knights finished the 2004 regular season with a 4-1 win over Forest on Tuesday afternoon. Scott Truesdale picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Justin Hurdle in boys singles, while Lea Cook and Nancy Siefker defeated Mollie Cieglo in girls doubles by a final of 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Eric Smith and Josh Sonak defeated Joseph Cieglo and Matt Wade by a final of 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Matt Shamrock and Brook Bounds picked up a 2-6, 7-5, 6-0 win in mixed doubles over Wade Brown and Rebecca Myard.
Casey Hedgepeth lost in girls singles action to Katie Shaler 6-4, 6-2.
West Lauderdale will return to action Thursday in the Division 5-3A tournament at Forest and the finals of the tournament will be held on Friday.
PREP GOLF
Lamar
Lamar School placed second in the Jackson Prep Invitational golf tournament on Tuesday after two Raiders posted scores of 80 or better.
J.T. Williamson fired a 72 for medalist honors, and Nick Brown shot 80 for Lamar, which scored 320. Jackson Prep won the tournament with a team score of 307.
Clay Bounds, Leigh Phillips, Reid Kennedy and Elliot Tramontana each shot 84 for the Raiders.

West Lauderdale
West Lauderdale took home first place honors in the Northeast Lauderdale Tournament on Tuesday afternoon with a team score of 313. Jarrod Moulds took the medalist honors with a 72 and Shane Parker had the second best score for the Knights with a 74.
Clarkdale finished in third place with a 330 and Brian Tomerlin scored a 73 to lead the Bulldogs. Meridian High took home fourth place with a score of 337 and Hunter Futch led the Wildcats with a 79.
Enterprise took a fifth place finish with a team score of 356 and Dennis Watson was the leading scorer for the Bulldogs with an 80.
JUCO GOLF
The Meridian Community College golf team won its first tournament of the season in a sudden death playoff with Northeast on Tuesday in the Itawamba Tournament. The Eagles scored even par on the second hole to capture the championship after tying with a team score of 313 with Northeast.
Clay Gerald led MCC with a 76. Matthew Smith added a 77, while Chad Hopkins, Winston Powell, and Joel Myrick each scored an 80 for MCC.
JUCO BASEBALL
Meridian Community College's game at Copiah-Lincoln on Tuesday was rained out.
