Lady Knights edge out Lady Tigers

Josie Matthews went 4-for-4 to lead West Lauderdale to a 5-4, eight-inning fast-pitch win over Southeast Lauderdale in Region 5-3A action.
Brooke Lee tossed a complete game to get the win. She allowed six hits and three earned runs, while striking out three and walking three.
Lindsay Raines went 2-for-4 with a solo homer for Southeast.
Union 18
Stringer 1
Beth Crotwell blasted a two-run homer and a grand slam to lead the Lady Jackets to the five-inning fast-pitch win at Union.
Loren Kennedy had a single and a triple, while Morgan Breland and Deann Cleveland both had a pair of singles as Union improved to 9-3.
Lindsay Walker (8-1) got the win, tossing four innings of no-hit ball. She struck out six.
Newton County 14
Raleigh 1
The Lady Cougars improved to 8-7 with the five-inning Region 5-3A fast-pitch win. Lindsey Little (2-2) allowed two hits and struck out nine with one walk.
Joni Seale, Chassidy Smith, and Megan Munn each had two hits for Newton County, while Joy Cavenaugh added a triple.
Lamar 14
Heritage 4
The Lady Raiders improved to 2-0 with the five-inning slow-pitch win.
Jasmine Harris tossed all five innings, allowing eight hits and two walks. Harris also went 1-for-2 with two RBIs at the plate.
Megan Pennington went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer. Bailey Barham went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBIs.

Thursday's game at Decatur was postponed due to the illness of one of Sylva-Bay's coaches.

Carthage 4
The Cougars got a two-run homer from Jared Cavenaugh in the top of the seventh to pull even at 4-4, then padded a 5-4 lead in the eighth with a three-run homer from Will Pearson in taking Tuesday's Region 5-3A game at Carthage.
Cavenaugh got the win, going all eight innings and allowing four hits and no earned runs while striking out 12.
Pearson also had a single to go with his homer. Greg Pillsbury had a single and a two-run double.
PREP TENNIS

The Wildcats blanked the Mustangs, winning 60 games to just three for the Jackson team.
Kyle Dew won 6-1, 6-0 in boys singles. Anna Allread won 6-0, 6-0 in girls singles. Graham Woods and Will Compton won 6-0, 6-0 in boys doubles. Kortney Harris and Kelly Sterling won 6-0, 6-0 in girls doubles. Hannah Ford and Nathon Kittrell won 6-2, 6-0 in mixed doubles.
JUCO SOFTBALL
East Central 7-2
Co-Lin 5-1
The Lady Warriors took a sweep at home against Co-Lin on Wednesday night to improve to 8-6 for the season. In game one, Lauren Barrett took the win on the mound and improved to 2-4 for the season.
Shelly Ferguson led the way at the plate for the Lady Warriors with a double and a single. Jhaun Sparnecht also chipped in with a pair of singles.
In game two, East Central scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the one-run win.
JUCO TENNIS
Wallace-Hanceville 9-9
MCC 0-0
The Eagles didn't fair very well as the top-ranked Lions took a clean team sweep in tennis action on Tuesday. The MCC women fell to 9-4 for the season and the MCC men dropped to 8-4.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
West Alabama 5-3
Miles 2-7
West Alabama split a doubleheader with Miles College Thursday at Tartt Field in Livingston.
