Wildcats take first

The Meridian High School boys track and field team captured first place in the Meridian High Track &Field Invitational Meet at Meridian Community College on Friday.
The Wildcats tallied 97 points and captured 10 first place finishes in the four-team event.
The meet attracted 13 teams to the MCC campus to compete in Division I and Division II track and field.
The Meridian High boys topped the list in boys Division I in front of Quitman, which took second with 58.5 points, Wayne County, which scored 53 points for third, and Laurel rounded out the list with 43.5.
Quitman took first place in Division I girls' competition. Quitman tallied 107 points.
The Meridian High girls came in second in Division I with 94 points, and Laurel finished with 28 points. Wayne County did not enter a girls team in the meet.
Northeast Lauderdale landed in first place in the boys and girls Division II competitions.
The Lady Trojans scored 94.5 points, and the Trojans tallied 84 points.
Heidelberg finished second in both the girls and boys in Division II. The Heidelberg girls scored 89, and the boys finished with 82
Demopolis finished third in both the boys and girls. The girls team ended with 10.5 points and the boys scored 46.
Clarkdale rounded out the Division II finishes, with the girls team scoring three points and the boys 12.
The Meridian High boys finished the meet with the most first-place finishes, and the Wildcats swept the relay portion of the Division I competition.
The Meridian High girls and Quitman girls each scored eight first-place finishes, and the Quitman boys took a pair of first-place finishes.
Laurel scored four first place finishes in the Division I boys' portion of the meet.
The Northeast Lauderdale girls ended in first nine times, and the Northeast Lauderdale boys took eight first-place finishes in the Division II portion of the meet.
The Heidelberg girls squad took seven first-place finishes, and the boys ended in first three times.
Demopolis tallied five first-place finishes on the boys' side of Division II competition.
Meridian High girls runner Dominique Goodwin had two first-place finishes in the 100-meter and the 300-meter hurdles, and Quitman's Danesha Williams took first in the 1,600-meter and the 3,200-meter runs.
Northeast Lauderdale's Yolanda Truman swept through the Division II girls' dashes, taking first in the 100-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter races.
Heidelberg's April Baker took a pair of first-place finishes in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs.
Quitman's Michael McClendon ended both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes in first place.
Meridian High's Chris Ford picked up first-place ribbons in the 800-meter and 3,200-meter runs.
Edward Pearce finished in first in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes for Northeast Lauderdale, and Antonio Smith won the 800-meter and 1,600-meter runs for the Trojans.
Northeast Lauderdale's Maurice Langston captured first place in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
Ray Williams ended in first place for Demopolis in the discus and shot put.
