Local runners place well in Newton 5K

The Newton Loose Caboose 5K run was held this past weekend and several local runners scored very well in the event.
Mike Thrailkill was the overall winner in the men's competition on Saturday by posting a final time of 17:43.
Claire Grunsendorf won the women's overall championship by posting a time of 23:42. Maurice Malone won the overall 50-plus category with a time of 20:47 and Georgia Walker posted the best women's time in the 50-plus age group with a time of 27:22
Jordan Walker won the overall 0-11 age group for the boys with a time of 30:17 and Shelby Barett won the girl's 0-11 group with a time of 38:47. Hal Collier won the 11-20 group for the boys with a time of 21:23 and Tara Hundnall won the 11-20 group for the girls with a final time of 24:22
Brad Gipson took first place in the 21-30 group with a time of 20:12 and Tamara Mills also won first place for the women with a time of 24:32. Pat Ross won the 31-40 male category with a time of 24:19 and Debra Kitchings won the female group with a time of 26:53.
Bobby Renfrow won the 41-50 age group with a time of 23:26 and Karen Malone won the female portion of the group with a time of 24:38.
Larry Sykes took first place in the two-mile walk with a time of 20:58 to round out the big winners for the event.
