MCC Eagles drop two on the road

The road was not kind to the Meridian Community College baseball team on Friday as the Eagles took a couple losses, falling to Bossier (La.) Parish Community College 9-8 and Texarkana (Texas) College 7-5.
MCC was the designated visiting team for both games, which were played in Bossier City, La.
Meridian, now 9-3 on the season, trailed 7-1 against Bossier after six innings of play before the Eagles began a rally that fell just short. MCC scored single runs in the sixth and seventh and three runs each in the eighth and ninth.
Michael Murray led the way for the Eagles with three doubles, while Van Pope had a triple and single. Matthew Rozier took the loss on the mound for Meridian.
MCC also fell behind early against Texarkana, trailing 5-1 after three innings of play. Murray tied the game with a grand slam in the fourth, but the winners scored twice in the eighth to take the win.
Toddrick Johnson had two singles and two stolen bases for MCC, which plays host to Danville Community College at Scaggs Field today at 1 p.m.

Cory Chance struck out 10 batters and tossed a complete game four-hitter as the Trojans knocked off the Mustangs in Region 5-4A action on Friday night. NEL moved to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Chad Brinson had a double, single and three RBIs for Northeast, while Jason Pritchett had one RBI off a single and double. Northeast returns to action today with a pair of home games. The Trojans face Union at 1 p.m. and Newton High School at 4.

Cory Irby bashed out two doubles and a single as the Enterprise Bulldogs took an 8-4 win over Stringer on Friday night.
Scott Moseley had a single and double for the 4-2 winners, while Zeb Swain added two singles. Adam Simpson picked up the win on the mound for EHS.
PREP SOFTBALL
Clarkdale 11
Columbus 0
The Lady Bulldogs of Clarkdale High School used a strong pitching performance by Emily Howard to roll past Columbus 11-0 on Thursday night.
Clarkdale had three hits on the night and made no errors. .
Newton County 8
West Jones 0
Joy Cavenaugh tossed a no-hitter for the Lady Cougars on Thursday to lead Newton County to an 8-0 win.
Newton County, now 4-1 on the season, banged out 11 hits, scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth to break open a scoreless game. The Lady Cougars then hit for a six-spot in the next inning to put the game away.
Cavenaugh struck out six and walked just five West Jones hitters. Dominque Mapp was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Cougars, while Lindsey Little had two singles and Jennifer Smith ripped a double.
NCHS is scheduled to host Neshoba Central today at Noon. Newton County will face Meridian High School at the Northeast Softball Complex on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a game that was postponed on Friday night.

Jordan Payne scored 22 points to lead Heidelberg to a MHSAA Class 2A semifinal win over Lumberton on Friday night. Andre Stephens added 14 points for the Oilers, while Shannon Jones scored 12.

Nadosha Strickland scored 28 points and Kristi Martin added 16 to lead Bay Springs to a semifinal win over Baldwyn Friday night.
in the MHSAA Class 2A Girls State Tournament at the Mississippi Coliseum.
Bay Springs, 37-2, meets the Coldwater-Hollandale Simmons winner March 11 at 6:30 p.m. for the 2A state title.
