CLINTON The Bobcats of Jones County Junior College fell behind early and couldn't get past Northwest Mississippi Community College in the Region 23 Tournament on Tuesday afternoon.
Northwest used 26 points from Lamar Sanders and a huge rebounding edge to put away Jones 93-75.
The Rangers finished with a 55-25 advantage in rebounding for the afternoon.
The Bobcats turned the ball over 21 times and struggled shooting from the outside in the loss.
Northwest jumped out to an early lead and stretched it out to 20 points at 43-23 with five minutes left in the first half.
The Rangers went on an 8-0 run later in the half to make the score 51-25, but Jones responded with a small run to close out the half.
Shedrick Kirk scored seven points for the Bobcats as they cut the lead down to 55-34 at half.
Jones continued to trail by 21 points for much of the second half, but put together a good stretch to cut into the lead midway through the half.
The Bobcats cut the lead to 18 points on a three-pointer by Marvin McDonald.
After trading baskets with Northwest, Jones came through with a five-point possession. Timothy Broomfield was fouled while making a shot but missed the free throw. Jones picked up the rebound and Kirk nailed a three to make the score 72-59.
That was as close as the Bobcats came to the Rangers, however. Northwest went on a 13-3 run to answer the charge by Jones.
The Rangers powered the ball inside and used offensive rebounds to stretch out to an 89-64 lead.
Jones was able to cut into the lead in the final minutes of the game.
The Bobcats finish the year with a record of 21-6.
