Choctaw County, Livingston to clash for Southwest crown

MOBILE Livingston and Choctaw County are set to square off in the Alabama boys Class 4A Southwest State finals today at the University of South Alabama.
The two schools are set to meet at 2 p.m., with the winner moving onto the overall Class 4A state tournament.
Livingston entered the qualifying game with a 55-49 overtime win over Hillcrest-Evergreen, and Choctaw County posted a 48-47 win over Demopolis on Friday.
Livingston 55
Hillcrest-Evergreen 49
After completing play in regulation tied at 44, Livingston's Corey Speights and Roland Finch each scored five points in overtime to lift their team to victory.
The tandem of Speights and Finch each tallied a double-double in the win over Hillcrest-Evergreen.
Speights scored a game-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Finch notched 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Destry Taylor paced Hillcrest-Evergreen's offense with 15 points, and Jerry Jackson scored 13.
Choctaw County 48
Demopolis 47
Morquell Drummond sank one free throw with four ticks left on the clock, as Choctaw County overcame a 35-27 deficit entering the fourth quarter to score a one-point win over Demopolis.
Choctaw County outscored Demopolis 21-12 in the final eight minutes of the game to move on to the 4A State Finals.
Clinton Thomas paced Choctaw County's offense with 12 points, and Hashim Dixon added 11.
Cedric McKinley scored 12 points for Demopolis, and Lequintin Lomax tallied 10 in the loss.
Bay Springs (girls) 51
Philadelphia 40
The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the big house by taking a nine-point win over Philadelphia in the Class 2A Tournament.
Nadosha Strickland led Bay Springs with 13 points and Latirce Weir added 12 points in the win. Dominetrix Hunter led Philadelphia with 15 points.
Hinds AHS (boys) 58
Heidelberg 54
Andre Stevens' game-high 18 points wasn't enough for Heidelberg to score a win over Hinds AHS in the semifinal round of the boys 2A South State championship.
Heidelberg will have a chance to make the state tournament today, if the team can pick up a win in the consolation bracket.
Travis Stevens tallied 15 points for Heidelberg, and Jordan Payne added 10.
Joseph White scored a team-high 15 points for Hinds AHS, and Carl Carson and Mario Webb added 13 and 12, respectively.
PREP BASEBALL
Meridian 7
Madison Central 4
The Meridian High School baseball team (3-0) notched a win in the opening day of the Mid-Mississipppi Baseball Classic in Jackson on Friday.
Ken Mitts smacked three-run and a two-run home runs for the Wildcats in the victory over Madison Central at Northwest Rankin. The tournament was also played at Pearl and Brandon.
Kedric Martin (2-0) notched the win on the mound for Meridian High, allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits in 5.2 innings of work. The junior pitcher struck out seven batters bringing his season total to 20.
Randy Diveley and Tyler McMullen each recorded two hits, and Kimone McDade hit a double for the Wildcats.
Meridian High continues play in the weekend Classic at Pearl High School. The Wildcats meet Vicksburg at 5:30 p.m., and then play Warren Central at 8 p.m.
West Lauderdale 15

West Lauderdale (3-0) tallied a win in six innings over McComb in the opening day of the Mid-Mississipppi Baseball Classic at Brandon High School in Jackson on Friday.
Drew Snider recorded seven strikeouts in six innings to pick up the win for the Knights.
Bo Davis went 4-for-5 for West Lauderdale, hitting two doubles and a pair of singles, and Austin Davis hit a double and a single. Dave Woods and Michael Pogue each recorded doubles for the Knights.
West Lauderdale continues play in the classic against Northwest Rankin at 5:30 p.m. today at Northwest Rankin.
Enterprise 20
Heidelberg 0
Enterprise picked up its second win of the season in five innings over Heidelberg on Friday.
Wade Weathers gave up just one hit in five innings of work for Enterprise (2-1) to record the victory. Weathers struck out 14 batters.
