The rain and Bossiar Parrish had something in common on Thursday afternoon, neither could slow down the No. 5-ranked Meridian Community College baseball team.
The Eagles used some late runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 10-2 win in the first game and used a quality pitching performance from Dusty Davis in the second game to take a 4-0 win for the sweep at Scaggs Field.
MCC notched several runs in the late stages of the opening game to take an eight-run victory. Bossier Parish took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, after leadoff hitter Dusty Maddox reached on a catcher's interference call at home plate that led to the first run for the Cavaliers.
Maddox scored a few moments later on a sacrifice fly by Louie Bonin to give Bossier Parish the lead. MCC came back to tie the game at one in the bottom of the first inning on a towering home run by first baseman Joey Lieberman.
MCC's Aaron George led off the second inning reaching first on an error and came around to score on a double by Sam Self to give MCC a 2-1 lead over the Cavaliers. Self collected a stolen base and then scored on an infield single by Richmond Alexander to extend the lead to 3-1 after two innings.
Bonin drove in the final run for Bossier Parish in the third inning on an RBI single, but the Eagles took full control of the rest of the game. MCC scored four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to take the win. The final two innings were highlighted by a two-run single by George and an RBI single by Self.
Matt Creighton tossed seven innings and collected eight strikeouts, while allowing no earned runs.
The second game of the day featured a great pitching performance from Davi, who threw a complete-game shutout to go along with six strikeouts.
The Eagles scored their first run of the second game on a sacrifice fly to right by Van Pope which plated Micheal Murray for a 1-0 lead after three innings.
Josh Morgan was the story of the rest of the night for the MCC offense, as the Alabama native connected on a pair of solo home runs to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning.
The other MCC run scored on a throwing error by the Cavaliers in the sixth. MCC moves to 6-1 for the season and returns to action this weekend in the Rush Invitational with the Eagles playing at 3 p.m. each day.
