Northeast Lauderdale sweeps Kemper County

DEKALB Northeast Lauderdale rained on Kemper County's senior night here Friday night as the Trojans beat the Wildcats 80-73 and the Lady Trojans beat Kemper County 61-47.
The Wildcats could not overcome poor free throw shooting in the boys game. Kemper County missed 12-straight free throws in the fourth quarter and finished 9-for-24 from the charity stripe.
Northeast overcame Kemper County's zone and worked through some foul trouble to pick up the victory.
Kemper County jumped out to an early 11-7 lead before Northeast fought back to take the lead at 12-11 on a basket by Demond Burton.
Kemper County got two buckets each from Marcus Green and Rodricus Hopson in the final minutes of the first quarter to take a 19-16 lead.
The Wildcats were able to stretch the lead out to nine points before Northeast came storming back. The Trojans outscored Kemper County 18-5 in the final five minutes of the first half to take a 39-35 lead at the break.
The Trojans came out flat in the second half and Kemper County made them pay as it went on a run to take back the lead.
The Wildcats weren't able to hold the lead long as Northeast made four free throws in the final minutes and got a three-pointer from Harold Grace to take a 54-51 lead after three quarters of play.
Kemper County battled back and tied the game 64-64 with four minutes left to play.
Northeast stretched out another four point lead but Kemper County answered with a basket from Shardricus Thompson and a bucket from Andrew Harrington to tie the game.
The Trojans came back down the floor and got a basket from Alex Ford to take back the lead. Kemper County had a great chance to tie the game back up but missed a dunk. The Wildcats were then forced to foul and Northeast went 4-for-4 from the line in the final minutes to take a 76-70 lead.
Northeast went on to take the 80-73 victory to move to 13-13 for the season. The Trojans will be back in action in the district tournament at Quitman next week. They will take on West Jones.
Grace scored 21 points to lead the Trojans. Ford and Langston each added 18 points in the victory.
Thompson scored 18 points for Kemper Count while Colby Wren added 15 and Dale scored 10.

Kemper County 47
Northeast rolled to a 61-47 victory over the Lady Wildcats in the girls' game on Friday night.
The Lady Trojans got 26 points from Shaquita Bell and 16 points from Crystal Hopson to pick up the victory.
Northeast jumped out to an 18-10 lead after the first quarter and led 32-21 at half.
The Lady Trojans continued to outscored the Lady Wildcats and took a 50-34 lead after three quarters of play. Northeast was outscored 13-11 in the final quarter but held on for the 61-47 win.
Melody Nave scored 18 points for Kemper County while Javitia Eades added 10.
