Excellence in Education

Roderick B. Amos graduated Dec. 19 with a law degree from Mississippi College School of Law.
Amos received a master's degree in finance from Atlanta University and bachelor's degree in accounting from Morehouse College.
While attending the MC School of Law, Amos received the Magnolia Bar Association Book Scholarship for the academic year of 2003-2004. Amos is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Amos of Meridian.
Mitchell Aaron Taylor of Meridian has accepted membership in Golden Key International Honour Society; he was honored during a campus ceremony.
Golden Key International Honour Society is a nonprofit, academic honors organization that provides academic recognition, leadership opportunities, community service and career networking scholarships.
Taylor is the son of Guy and B.J. Taylor, and is a graduate of Northeast Lauderdale High School.
Shelia Trussell of Meridian and Charles Jordan of Mize have been chosen to receive the Miriam Roberson Nursing scholarships at Meridian Community College.
These $700 awards are funded through the MCC Foundation from an endowment established by Thomas Roberson.
Trussell is a 1984 graduate of Harris High School. She received her certification as a licensed practical nurse in 2002, and is now in the third semester of the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
She is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses. Her goal is to complete her degree and pursue a master's degree in psychology.
Jordan is a 1989 graduate of Raleigh High School. A president's list scholar, he is a member of the Organization of Student Nurses.
He works full time with an ambulance service and teaches cardiopulmonary resuscitation. After graduation, he plans to earn a master's degree.
CLINTON Mississippi College recently announced its dean's list and president's list for the fall 2003 semester.
The president's list includes students who have a 4.0 grade point average. The dean's list includes students who have a GPA of 3.5 or better.
Local students named to the president's list are Stephen Patrick Bergin of Bailey; Justin Alan Qualls of Lauderdale; and Robert Samuel Followell, Karah Lynn Godfrey, April Teresa Hand, Dustin Craig Hedgpeth, Rebecca Sara-Nell McCarty, Christopher Ryan Satcher, Adrian Lyle Spidle and Anderson Evan Thomas, all of Meridian.
Local students who made the dean's list are Christopher Ryan Knight of Toomsuba; Scott David Elliott Jr., Carrie Elizabeth Jones, Julia Lynne Pollman, Nickolee Lauren Teedder and Jessica Ann Warren, all of Meridian; and Mindy Brooke Espey of Collinsville.
Zach Flanagan of Causeyville graduated from the University of West Alabama with a bachelor's degree in industrial technology. He graduated magna cum laude, with a grade point average of 3.8.
Flanagan also received the university scholar's award in industrial maintenance, the university scholar's award in industrial technology and the outstanding student scholars award. He was nominated to the Alpha Chi Honor Society and the Cardinal Key National Honor Society.
He is the grandson of Elizabeth Flanagan and the late Turner Flanagan and Leon Boykin and the late Bonnie Boykin.
