A room in Meridian Community College's Hardin Hall was named the Ralph E. Young Jr. Board Room on Wednesday in honor of Young's 20 years of service to the school.
Young is chairman of the MCC Board of Trustees; he has been a member of the board for 20 years.
Elliott's comments came during the first meeting of the new year for the MCC Board of Trustees. Also discussed at the meeting was the school's Health Information Technology Program.
Robin Jones, an instructor in the program, said her students are having good luck finding jobs before and after graduation.
In other business, longtime English instructor Steve Owen and music director Robert Hermetz announced they will retire in May. Charles Williams, a campus security officer, also will retire.
The board also announced that Lindy Wilkinson is the new campus life coordinator.
Pam Harrison, vice president of finance, said the school's expenditures for last month were slightly more than $2 million an increase of more than $27,000 over December of 2002.
The board also voted to expand the curriculum of its Nursing 1319 class. Tommy McDonald, MCC vice president, said the summer course will expand to include video and Internet-based instruction.
